Architectural Store

While Mitch and Amberlea were down we went to an architectural store west of Ada that has salvage items from everywhere. Very interesting things are there. Because it was so hot we didn't too stay long but did have a chance to get an idea about the store.
Probably the most unique item was an iguanna that was 23 years old. Hank, the iguanna (not for sale) enjoyed being petted by the owner. It would close it eyes as it raised its head to be petted.

Our Birthday Week-end

Our birthday fun began last Thursday when Mel and I received a package in the mail for Bryan, Melodi and the kids. It was a darling picture frame with the scripture from Proverbs about grandchildren being the crowning glory of grandparents. We have the perfect picture for it. One that was taken in the park earlier in the summer when all the grandkids were here.


Friday Mel and I went to Ardmore to eat at Two Frog Grill. We had a delicious meal and received a half of an apple dumpling free for my birthday. Of course, Mel had to enjoy one as well. Yum, Yum!!

Saturday Mitch, Amberlea and Jett came down. Mitch grilled steaks and we had baked potatoes, fried okra, corn on the cobb, tomatoes and Key Lime Pie. Talk about being stuffed when we finished the delicious meal.

Monday was Mel's birthday. He wanted home cooking so we had beef brisket, baked beans, sweet potato fries, okra, tomatoes and cornbread. For dessert we had turtle pie.

Our First Apple

Three years ago Mel and I planted 2 apple trees and 2 peach trees. Finally, this year we have 1 apple. I was so excited that we finally had one! My sweet creative husband who is also very witty told me I could eat the apple. I replied that I would share with him. He then responded with, "I remember what happened to Adam so the apple would be all mine!" He said he didn't see any fig leaves around either.

Fall Garden

Mel and I worked on our fall garden. The old cornstalks were pulled up and fed to the heifers we are weaning. Boy, did they enjoy that! Corn and green bean seeds were soaked overnight and were planted yesterday. The rows were watered with our sophisticated watering system that my very creative husband devised. The tomatoes and okra seem to be "holding up" considering the heat and the dry weather. Hopefully the black-eye peas will bear soon.

Lunch at Grammy's for Birthdays

Grammy had a birthday lunch for several last Saturday. The birthday people were Amanda-7/31, John-8/01, Michael-8/03, Cathy-8/06, Mel-8/09, and Emma-8/16. Unfortunately Emma had to go back to Germany; however, hers was celebrated early before she left.

Barn Cats Now

All of our cats are now "barn cats". It was quite an experience moving them. Melodi held the box that the kittens were in, McKaylea and Emma held Mamma Kitty and I held Fluffy Boy while I drove. All have adjusted very well. The kittens have so much space in which to run and play. While working in the garden the cats are right in the middle of everything and enjoy playing chase with each other among vegetables.

Summer Fun with the Grandkids

What fun and experiences we had this summer with the grandkids! Our time together was priceless and so full of memories. The cousins had fun playing together and getting to know one another. Having our girls and the grandkids visit meant so much to us. It was hard to see Melodi and the kids go back to Germany, but knowing they will be closer in January made it easier to accept. Pictures and stories of this summer will be in our book from the blog that Melodi made.
