Saturday, June 6th

This morning the boys helped Grandpop move stock panels and spray painted posts to blend in with the panels.
Parents arrived and we went to Brooke's wedding.  Amberlea, Mitch and Jett met us at the church.

After the wedding, Mel and I went to the school for visitation and the banquet.  

The boys were staying with us the next week.  The girls and Jett had Sports Camp the next week or they would have stayed on the farm.
Bryan, Melodi, the girls, Mitch, Amberlea and Jett headed back home.
Jacob and Mathew tended to the farm until we returned home.

Friday's Activities, June 5th

Mel and I were helping prepare for the Roff Alumni Banquet.  We went to the school to decorate.  The boys were a lot of help moving tables, setting decorations on the table, etc.

A fellow classmate, Bubba, met us at the school to help.

He told the boys about Grandpop and his ball playing days!

We came home and had Pioneer Woman's Recipe, Green Chile Chicken.  The guys thought it was delicious and agreed it was to be made again.  Our dessert was homemade chocolate malts.

Mat was my helper in the kitchen.  

We went to Sulphur to get gas for the lawnmowers and worms for the boys so they could go fishing.

The boys sprayed sunscreen and bug spray before heading to the pond.

Grandpop brushhogged a path around the pond so snakes could be easily seen.

The Catch

Funny stories about fishing:

Jacob thought he saw a snake in the water, but after further exploring, discovered it was just a stick.

Later, Jake thought a snake was around because he heard branches breaking.  Mat informed him snakes would not break branches!!

Mat helped me take the strings off the sugar snap peas.

Memories of the Past

It doesn't seem that long ago that these bikes were peddled by little legs and ridden many miles on the sidewalk around the house.  The grandkids had outgrown the first bicycles they had.
After the boys checked them out, Uncle John took one and the red scooter.  The other 3 bikes we put out with a sign saying "Free".  Within a couple of hours the bikes were gone.

Many precious memories were made with these bikes!

The Farm Work Begins!

Mathew and Jacob moved various items on the farm for Grandpop.  They also checked out the bicycles that the kids had outgrown to see if they were worth saving.

After completing the day's scheduled work, it was time for lunch.

Meeting at Cracker Barrel for the Boys

We met Melodi and the kids at Cracker Barrel for lunch and then the boys came back to the farm with us.

On the way home we planned our menu.  Of course, we began with dessert first!!

Mel's New Invention

We had an old pressure tank that Mel converted into a "fancy" hanging hand washer.  This is what he calls "thinking outside the box".  He is very good at doing that.

May Horse Show

Because of rain, the May Horse Show was rescheduled for the last week-end and was relocated to the Hardy Murphy Coliseum .  Mel was ready  after being out the few weeks for his back and attending the Craig Cameron Horsemanship Clinic.  He went to the informational clinic on Saturday.
After doing warm-up exercises, he noticed that Buttercup was acting strangely.  After further checking it seemed she was having a problem with her shoulder/back area.  He decided to withdraw from the competition rather than risk further injury to her.  He had the vet check her and it seemed as though she had strained her shoulder muscle area.  Time would heal the injury.
He said it was either his back or her back that put them out of 2 months competition.
