Fried Green Tomatoes Anyone?
A frost was predicted for this morning so yesterday afternoon Mel and I picked our green tomatoes. We filled a 5 gallon bucket. Since we have more than enough for fried green tomatoes, I will also make some chow-chow.
What a Terrific Repair Man
Last Saturday the winds blew very hard for a while. A piece of siding on one of the dormers blew off. Mel decided he could repair it using just a ladder to get up on the roof. Earlier in the summer a piece came off the end of the house facing the driveway. We rented a lift to repair that piece. He didn't think we needed to do that again, just use the ladder. I convinced him the only way would be for him to have a rope tied to his waist and the other end tied to the post on the back patio. That is what he did. He did make the comment the roof was "a little steep". Really??? Why do you suppose I wanted the rope??? He was very careful, but I was a bundle of nerves on the ground as I watched. What a terrific job he did repairing the siding!
The Golfer and His Swing

Mel went on his annual golf trip with Surrey Hills golfers. Instead of Myrtle Beach this year they went to Mesquite, Nevada for their match with the Philadelphia golfers. Surrey Hills won again this year! Way to go Surrey Hills!

Mel's Pickett Fence
My sweet hubby is so creative and ready to attempt new projects. He decided to use the wood from Grammy's old house to build a pickett fence at the blue barn. Many hours were spent cutting, hammering, screwing, and putting picketts in place. He finished it this past week. What a wonderful job he did!. He commented that he had learned a lot and could use it if he decides to ever build another one (where I don't know right now, but you know how things change).
Guess what comes after the building??? You're right, the painting. Yeah! The helpful little farm wife enjoyed the task of painting. I have to say, "It really looks great!"
Our " Little Daring" Kitten
Isn't this just the cutest little face and so innocent looking? This is the one that is smallest of the 3 and we call him "Runt". He is all black except for a little white on the very tip of his tail. When it comes time to crawl out of a space or over items, Runt is the first to do it, quite daring!
Last Sunday as we started to church this little thing was by the driveway close to the mailbox, quite a little journey I would think for such little legs; however, it evidently did not hinder the curiosity of this little thing. After stopping, picking him up and returning him to his proper home, we were on our way.

What Does a Boy Do on the Farm?
What does a boy do on the farm? Seems as though the list goes this way: jump and sing; climb on equipment; go to the junk ditch with Grandpop as well as take a tractor ride; ride the horse swing; search for and trap bugs; ride your bicycle; and of course, play with Legos. Who could ask for more?
How ready we are to have 2 more boys and 2 girls to join in the farm fun activities!

Kennedy Revisited
Monday, September 27th we went to ECU to listen to Larry Hancock, the brother of Bill Hancock that Mel worked with for many years at Farm Bureau, speak about the Kennedy assassination and also about the MLK assassination. He has done years of research on both, especially the theories of the Kennedy assassination. A very interesting speaker he was. We had a chance to visit with him and Bill had told him we might be there. He has a new book out, Someone Would Have Talked. We have a signed copy now.
