A Rough Day on the Farm

Last week was a rough day on the farm for our critters.  When I drove up to the barn, I noticed a large bird that flew from close to the chicken coop.  I got out and walked closer when another one flew.  As I arrived at the chicken coop, one of our red hens had been attacked by the birds.  Evidently they were chicken hawks.  We are now down to 6 chickens.  A few weeks ago we lost a chicken to a raccoon.  Mel set the trap so we did capture it and disposed with it.
Late in the day Mel came in from the Annex where he had gotten the cows to come into a trap area so the next morning we could load 9 calves to take to the vet.  A cow was trying to calve and he thought she was having trouble.  Since it was late in the day, he knew getting a vet would be a problem.   He would just take her to the vet the next morning along with the calves.

UPDATE:  The next morning when we arrived at the Annex, we had the cutest and healthiest baby calf  and a mama cow- both were doing fine!
We still lost the chicken, but  not a calf and cow!  How thankful we were!
