We needed to get a Texas map so we stopped at a rest area in Texas. I commented that I didn't think they would have one since it was not the travel center. Mel had his "little grin" and just knew that they would. Well, guess what - it was just the rest area and no map could be found. Possibly at one time it was a travel center but not now.

The American Quarter Horse Museum was our next stop. It was a very interesting place and told the history of quarter horses and the people responsible for developing the breed in the U. S.
The bloodline of our horse, Buttercup
We checked into our hotel.
Mel did some shopping at the Saddle and Tack store.
Our evening meal was at Cracker Barrel.
The apple dumpling was delicious!
Tuesday, after stopping at the Texas Travel Center to get the map, we drove south of I-40 to Fort Sumner. This was where Billy the Kid was buried.

After leaving the museum, we passed by this old equipment. I had told Mel that I would like to have an old plow for our entrance. Sure enough we found one!

We drove through the towns of Hereford, Clovis, Ft. Sumner, and Vaughn, areas we had never see before. At Cline's Corner we headed north to Santa Fe.
Mel and I had a mid-afternoon meal at the La Fonda. They have wonderful meals there.
After checking in at Garrett's Desert Inn we met the rest of the group and had a good time visiting.

The next morning we met to walk to the La Fonda for breakfast.
After our delicious breakfast Mel and I went shopping. He had read about Kowboyz, a store that had hundreds of boots. He was hoping to find some that would be comfortable.
The owner explaining how the boots were displayed
Our afternoon meal was at Rancho de Chimayo in a small town of Chimayo.
The owner, whose grandfather started the restaurant, visited with Mel.
Yummy - the chili relleno
The Chimayo Trading and Mercantile is more than 100 years old. There are paintings, sculptures, pottery, jewelry and weavings that are made there on sight. Also, a book store is there.

The group decided to meet at Bell Tower on top of La Fonda Hotel to watch the sunset.
Visiting while waiting for sunset at 6:56 p.m.

A fun and enjoyable time we have together!
