An "All American" Saturday

The movie, 42, was on pay per view so Mel and I decided to rent it.  We invited my siblings to see it with us.
When discussing the menu, I stated that since it was baseball we would have hot dogs, but that I didn't have apple pie (the lyrics, "baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet).  Margaret said she did.  So - we were all set for our evening of baseball, hot dogs, apple pie (with ice cream) and we did have the Chevrolet in the garage.
We had a fun evening with good company, good food and a good movie!

Enjoying our hot dogs

After the movie we had the apple pie and ice cream.  As you can see in the picture we just about devoured it all.

Closing in the Pond

A pond we had in front of the house just would not hold water.  Mel had tried several different remedies to stop the leak.  Finally, he decided to close the pond.

Mel now has a place he can practice reining with Buttercup.  In fact, he has made some signs for changing from the various activities of trot to lope to backing up, etc. for practice.

Here's What's Happening on the Farm

It's weaning time and sale time for calves!  That means, "It's crying time again (or for the cows and calves bawling time)".
Our heifers are now ready to be weaned.  We will keep them to add to our herd.  The steers will be loaded and sent to the sale barn.

What good-looking calves

The mamas

I'm sure the calves are trying to figure out how to get through the fenced area to their mamas.

Off they go to another home

We had one bull calf born in April.  Mel thought about keeping him so we would have beef in the freezer.  While separating the calves, that little dude ran right through a panel and knocked out the staples holding it to the post.  With him such a wild little guy, he just went to the sale also.
We don't keep wild things around here for everyone's safety.

A Fun Saturday

Saturday was our fun day on the farm.  First, we went to "Trade Days".  After a short time there we enjoyed breakfast at Braum's - Jett's selection.  Later in the day we saw the movie,  The Lone Ranger.
It was a comedy and not quite the way the older versions of the show were on TV (as Mel and I remembered).  We enjoyed it, especially Jett.  He told his parents all about the story.

Off for our fun day

Of course we had to have popcorn and coke at the movie

What a fun day we enjoyed together!

Meeting for Amberlea's Birthday

Amberlea and I met in Norman for some time together and birthday shopping.  We had Starbucks and then shopped.  She found exactly what she wanted.
A surprise was when Jett came home with me to the farm.  After purchasing him an extra set of clothes (this had not been planned, but we are always open to the kids and grandkids coming to the farm), we headed home for fun on the farm.

Fourth of July

How truly blessed we are to live in a country where we can enjoy our freedom!  So many times we take for granted these freedoms and especially the price that has been paid throughout our country's history.  The price is still being paid today by our brave military service men and women.
We are so proud of our son-in-law, Bryan, who is serving his country in this fashion!  Many sacrifices have been made by his family and himself in order to defend our country.  A big "Thank You" to him and his family!!!
Our symbol of freedom

Fourth of July means grilled hot dogs with all the trimmings!

Home-made ice cream is another staple for the Fourth.  This year I tried something new - apple pie a la mode ice cream.  I used the packet of mix, froze the ingredients in our ice cream freezer and then folded in apple pie filling (spiced a little with apple pie spice).  The verdict:  DELICIOUS!
I had gotten this idea from last year when we visited Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  I had this flavor at an ice cream shop there.

We need to thank God everyday for our blessed life here in the USA and the brave men and women willing to sacrifice so much for us!  My prayer is that God will richly bless these service men and women and their families!!!

A Picnic in the Pasture

After the boys went home Mel had to finish the brush-hogging himself.  To make the best use of time I took sandwiches to him and we enjoyed a picnic in the pasture under a shade tree.

The Elliott Family Visit the Farm

We were thrilled to have The Elliott Family visit the farm.  For Father's Day they brought brats and trimmings for them.  What an excellent griller Mitch was!  We had brats with Amber's delicious onion dip.  The next day we enjoyed hamburgers with speciality trimmings of Swiss Cheese, avocado, bacon and the usual trimmings on hamburgers and home-made onion rings (we do have an abundance of onions from the garden).  Talk about good eating for 2 days!

Mel had to sample the onion dip to make sure it was good!
