Branson Missouri

Mel and I went to Branson for our "belated 40th Anniversary trip.  During the summer with the drought and heat we stayed close to home.  Since we were close to Kansas City we just went on to Branson from there.
Leaving early in the morning, we wanted to avoid rush hour traffic in Kansas City so we had Onstar to plot us a route going on the "less traveled roads".  Some of the sights we saw were interesting especially Tightwad Bank in Tightwad, Missouri.

After checking in we went to our cabin - # 287.  What a cute and memorable place for us to stay!

We had rockers on our porch; however, it was too cold to enjoy them and our porch.

Dressed and ready to go to eat and a show

Our tickets were on the first row - we were up close to the stage for sure!

Later he changes to impersonate Hank Williams

Minnie Pearl and Hank

Mel bought CD's and Tim Hadler autographed them
We enjoyed the show with the songs and hearing the story of Hank Williams' life.

The next morning we woke up to snow!  What a beautiful sight and especially since we were in our cabin.  There was just enough snow to make it lovely but not to interfere with travel!

The drive through Branson sure made you think of Christmas with the lights, decorations and snow!

We had breakfast at the Farmhouse Family Restaurant
Mel deciding what to have
Roy Rogers, Jr. was the next show we saw. It was at the Mickey Gilley Theater.
Roy Rogers would have been 100 years old this year.  How many shows did we watch as kids with Roy, Trigger - his horse, and Bullet -  his dog?

In the lobby of the theater waiting to go in
Roy Rogers' great-grandson who looked at our tickets, then escorted us to our seats

3 Generations

Mel purchased a calendar with pictures of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.  All 3 autographed the calendar.  The youngest Rogers is autographing it in this picture.

After intermission Christmas songs were sung

Since we were going to the Dixie Stampede for a dinner show, we decided to have a light lunch of soup and sandwiches.  We took it back to the cabin to enjoy.

Pictures or video cannot be taken during the Dixie Stampede show.  A delicious meal of creamy vegetable soup, chicken, pork roast, spicy potatoes, corn on the cob, cheddar biscuits and apple turnovers was what we had.  The Christmas show included live camels, donkeys, sheep, goats, and the Nativity in addition to the regular show with horses and wagons.

Time to head home
We headed south out of Branson to Fayetteville, then 540 to 40 to get home.

A great 40th Anniversary get-away !!!
