Our Presidential Trip - Day 1

Mel and I planned a trip to see Presidential Historical Sites and invited Joe, Margaret and Jerry to go.  We left at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, the 16th.   Seminole was where we stopped  for breakfast, then we headed toward Truman Historical Site in Independence, Missouri.  On the way we stopped at Coffeyville, Kansas where The Daltons attempted to rob 2 banks at one time (they did not succeed because the citizens of Coffeyville said, "Not in our town!".

The bank robbers who did not make it with the sign, "Crime does not pay!"

Coffeyville is also home to the baseball player, Walter Johnson

 Just look at these 3!!

A bit of tidbit - the Icee was invented in Coffeyville as well.

One of the banks that was robbed.  The other has been torn down.

Ft. Scott, Kansas
A trolley tour of Ft. Scott leaves from this information center

Our trolley driver and tour guide who gave us a tour of Ft. Scott

A couple of the houses we saw on the tour

Ft. Scott Cemetery

A bit of tidbit - George Washington Carver was born there and the movie, Learning Tree, was filmed in Ft. Scott, Kansas.

We ate at Aunt Toadies in Ft. Scott.

Truman Farm

Because of a preseason game between the Kansas City Chiefs and 49ers, the drive to our hotel in Independence was slow and tedious!  It took over an hour to go 3 miles!  Needless to say we were ready for the hotel!
