The Story of the Saddle

This saddle has a quite a story. In 1972 Mel bought this saddle for $300(quite a bit of money at that time). He kept it for 2 -3 years until he sold his Palamino horse. He became interested in quail hunting so Mel traded the saddle to a friend, Alfred Grimm, for a bird dog. A few weeks later the bird dog managed to get under our house in Roff and bite into a 220 wire. Well, no dog - no saddle! In 2005 after we moved back to the farm, Mel thought about that saddle and wondered if Alfred's granddaughter might have any idea what happened to that saddle. She told him there was a saddle at her house but didn't know if it was the one from 1972. We were more than welcome to come and check. Sure enough, it was that saddle. The granddaughter didn't want any money for it, but Mel gave her $100 anyway. He then spent $200 having the underside repaired. After $600 and one bird dog, it has made it's way back home!
